On 29 June 2017, ECO-SEE hosted a final event in Brussels entitled “90% indoors: Solutions for healthy and energy efficient buildings”.

We spend up to 90% of our lives indoors. Yet the air quality inside buildings has been shown to be 2 to 5 times poorer than outdoors. This can also true for modern energy efficient buildings due to increased insulation levels and greater air tightness.

This conference was an opportunity for policy makers, industries, building designers and academia to learn how innovative eco-materials such as those developed in ECO-SEE can help address both indoor air quality and energy efficiency in buildings, and discuss how best to bring those innovations to the market.

The ISOBIO project will host its third workshop on 22 March, focusing on the importance of skills and standards for the take up of bio-based construction products.

ISOBIO is another project developing new and enhanced bio-based construction materials, and involves a number of ECO-SEE partners (University of Bath, Acciona, BCB Lhoist, Claytec, Greenovate! Europe).

To discuss current actions around standards and skills for bio-based construction, and debate the way forward, speakers from Earth Building UK and IrelandBC architects & studies, the ECO-SEE project and the German Association for Building with Earth will present at the workshop.

Consortium partners from the University of BathAcciona and Cavac will also share their experiences, and the latest updates from the ISOBIO project, which is developing new and enhanced insulation panels and renders.

The workshop is free of charge, but please register your attendance in advance. An informal networking lunch will precede the event.

When: 12:00 – 16:30

Where: Renewable Energy House, Rue d’Arlon 63, Brussels, BE

Planning to be in London for EcoBuild? Don’t miss the ECO-SEE workshop on "Energy efficient building materials for improved indoor air quality", which will take place on the 8th of March from 10.30 to 12:30 as part of the EcoBuild exhibition!

The workshop will showcase the scientific and technical achievements of the ECO-SEE project, and provide the opportunity for interested parties to meet members of the project team.

Experts from Black Mountain Insulation, Claytec, BRE (Building Research Establishment) and University of Bath will present highly energy efficient eco-materials capable of addressing emerging health problems associated with modern airtight buildings.

Project innovations include:

  • Clay plasters with enhanced hygrothermal performance;
  • Photocatalytic treatments for lime and wood based panel products;
  • Natural insulation products with enhanced capacity to remove volatile organic compounds;
  • Novel internal and external wall panel designs.

This free event will be of interest to a broad range of construction industry stakeholders, including architects, construction engineers, public and private clients, indoor air quality experts, construction materials and product manufacturers, and researchers and academics.

Please note that in order to access this workshop, participants must register to EcoBuild (free). You can register here.

A final workshop of the project ‘Smart Elements for Sustainable Building Envelopes’ (SESBE) funded by the European Commission (contract number 608950) will be held in Madrid, Spain on the 22nd of November, 2016.

The workshop will present results from the SESBE project but also highlight recent developments in the building sector, including other European projects. Acciona will present the ECO-SEE project at the workshop, following which participants have the chance to visit the local ECO-SEE demonstration site. The workshop is directed towards industry and stakeholders.

Please download the workshop program for further information. For attending the workshop, please download and fill in the registration form and send it to Jose Vera (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) by November 18, 2016.

Information about SESBE can be found at www.sesbe.eu.

The 2016 edition of the World Sustainable Energy Days organised by the OÖ Energiesparverband, the energy agency of Upper Austria, will be held on 26 February 2016 in Wels, Austria.

The programme will include 6 conferences on sustainable buildings, biomass and energy services and 3 hands-on events covering technologies, policies and markets. In 2015, the event attracted more than 750 participants from 64 countries.

For more information about the conference, please visit the webpage: www.wsed.at

The ECO-SEE project will hold its third Stakeholder Workshop on the 18 February in Munich, titled "ECO-SEE Indoor Air Quality Workshop". Hosted by Fraunhofer, the workshop will update participants on the la latest project's results, with a focus sustainability, environmental compatibility, certification and Life Cycle Analysis issues.
Going beyond ECO-SEE, three other EU-funded projects of the AMANAC cluster (www.amanac.eu) will take part in the workshop and share their findings.
ECO-SEE's stakeholder workshops are an opportunity to engage construction industry players into interactive discussions on the project's outputs but also on the needs of the market.
